Cold Turkey

Jul 28, 2006

Earlier today I put my PowerBook in for servicing a problem with the audio out as well as a noisy fan. That means that I'm not only Mac-less for at least a week, but also laptop-less. Bah.

Having to recreate your working environment on a different machine is not a fun experience. It is double-plus-un-fun when it's on a Windows box...

Searching for files takes a long time (no Spotlight). I constantly have to check up on my programs (no Growl). The command-line is close to useless (no Terminal / Bash). Editing text is clunky (no TextMate). Switching between applications is a chore (no Exposé / Desktop Manager). Chatting makes me feel like I'm h4x0ring teh g1bs0n rather than having a conversation (no Colloquy / Adium). Applications interrupt my work with annoying dialogs even as I'm typing this post (no Aqua HI guidelines).

So yes, I'm a Mac addict and losing the Mac has made me very unproductive.

In fact, the only thing I can still do as before is graphics, because I still used Paint Shop Pro on Windows. PSP's integration of raster and vector graphics editing tools beats all the competition. Unfortunately it seems that on the Mac 'graphics tool' is synonymous with 'Adobe'.

I need a good PSP-alike program for Mac, or an Intel Mac capable of virtualization :P.

Today's Bonus Feature: bad Drupal T-shirt designs.

Yeah, it must be rubbish having many cool programs at your disposal!

You'll have no time when you're looking at the clock, or the calculator or even the fantastic task manager!!

Truly, once you've seen Windows, and its dazzling array of craptastic programs in action, you'll wonder how you ever went without it!

Oh, and don't forget to update your virus definitions! Yes, I know. You mac-folks aren't used to that word, but it's a fact of life for us guys! :D

I've just found my pink spray can, a nd grabbed an old laptop bag. It is pink by now, all I need is a highres print of the 'ellow Drupal thingy (.ps?, .svg?).
If my paint holds (it is old) I'll paint my other bag too. Might make a nice prize for some competition at drupalConBrussels?

Oooh that sucks! I can't

Oooh that sucks! I can't imagine not having my Mac either, it just works... oh so well!

As for the tshirts, I think we need a Druplicon + a Belgium beer, perhaps Chimay?

"Drupal while you drunk" ;-)
